Prof. GEUNHYUNG KIM research team (the department of Bio-Mechatronic Engineering) developed a nano-muscle fiber imitating human muscle tissue by using 3D cell-electrofluid process.
Prof. GEUNHYUNG KIM research team of Bio-Mechatronic Engineering department succeeded in controlling the arrangement of nanofibers by producing bio-ink suitable for living cells and electrospinning. Nano-muscle fibers, including living muscle cells, stimulate muscle cells to regenerate muscle tissue by inducing muscle cells to grow in the one direction as real muscles.
Prof. GEUNHYUNG KIM explained that "This study is the first example of arranging nanofibers that contain cells by using an electrospinning process. This study presented the possibility of a new regenerative method of array organization of the human body."
This research was supported by the Korea Basic Research Project, the National Research Foundation of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (Senior Researchers Support Project) and was selected as a cover of the global journal 'Small' in the materials science filed (impact factor 9.598).
