Research Institutes

Aim of Establishment

The academic depth and the range of applications in the related fields of biotechnology have been increasing through cooperation with the science of agriculture and fisheries, oceanography, medical science, pharmacy and engineering fields.

Biotechnology and Bioengineering as a discipline of life preservation is rapidly diversifying its research areas and technology from the production, improvement and conservation of biological resources, hygiene and safety of food resources to the technology of laborsaving and industrialization of bio-industrial processes.

Because of these characteristics of biotechnology, it is required to build a creative research capacity in each field of study and activate interdisciplinary and joint research with industry-university-institute collaboration.
In order to meet these requirements systematically and institutionally, Sungkyunkwan University 'Institute of Biotechnology and Bioengineering' was established.

Our research center contributes to the development of 21st century biotechnology and related industries focusing on the development of new bioactive food and organisms, hygiene and safety diagnosis and prevention of biological resources, securement and development of new genetic resources, building the foundation of industrialization technology and digital distribution system of biological production processes, and eco-friendly production technology of biological resources.

The Institute of Biotechnology and Bioengineering wishes to contribute further to the advancement of biotechnology through the scientific research and the development of technology in the related fields of biotechnology.
